Dear Friends and Collectors,

I am so pleased to be showing these new works in this "From The Green Shelves” show.

As many of you know, these infamous shelves nestling inside my Wunderkammer are painted in that glorious green colour known as Invisible Green. Invisible because it was developed to aesthetically disguise park railings.

This year, I have five painters: Avital Burg, Julie Held, Laura Smith, Will Topley and introducing the work of Carmel Ben Or.

We have further stoneware ceramics by Kimia Amini which are a marvel of her imagination, her eye to hand coordination and the spiritual kindness of her kiln goddesses.

All our artists not only paint with great discipline but have the generosity of being teachers.

Avital Burg, based in Brooklyn, has had an extraordinary year showing on both the East and West coasts of America. She has always been well collected by our followers and these small works are a seasonal joy.

Laura Smith and Julie Held have had busy years, showing widely in both group and solo shows, and art fairs too. I live with much of their work in my own collection. Not a day goes by that I don’t feel elevated by their use of colour and memory.

I am very flattered that they have chosen this gallery to show some of their most recent work.

Will Topley is in high demand, often painting exterior and interior studies of some of the finest homes in the UK. Once again, he has agreed to paint a Marmite picture, continuing this tradition into its fourth year. This year, he has added another witty picture based around a Heinz Baked Bean tin and a toy cowboy. Is this a nod to the great Mel Brooks’ film Blazing Saddles, or even to the more contemporary series Yellowstone?

Carmel Ben Or is a young new talent whose work I have followed online for some time. From a family of creatives and artists, Carmel trained at the Jerusalem Studio School under the great tutelage of Yedidya Hirschberg and Deborah Sebaoun.  (You may recall that we had a small show of Deborah’s nudes earlier this year.) Carmel is already held in both private and museum collections.

So, above all else, I hope you enjoy this opportunity to see more works by artists who work with great honesty and teach with the greatest gift of wisdom.

Five painters, one potter and a distinct possibility of some further surprises popping up in the next fortnight.

Best wishes,

Nick
